ALGIERS, June 15 — Economic development emerged as the dominant theme during the sixth day of Algeria’s campaign for the July 2 legislative elections, as political party leaders outlined proposals centred on economic diversification, food security, local development and institutional reform.

Candidates and party representatives holding rallies across several wilayas emphasised the need for a more effective parliament capable of supporting the country’s ongoing economic and institutional transformation.

Addressing supporters in Sétif, Fateh Boutbig, president of the El-Moustakbal Front, stressed the importance of electing a legislature capable of accompanying the reforms currently under way in Algeria.

“The current phase requires strong institutions able to fulfil their legislative, oversight and policy-making functions in line with the major reforms the country is undertaking,” he said.

In Bou Saâda, Reda Benounane, president of Talaie El-Hourriyet, described the upcoming legislative elections as an opportunity to support Algeria’s economic recovery and consolidate development gains.

He called for broad voter participation, describing the July 2 vote as a key moment to reinforce the country’s economic revival efforts and sustain national development programmes.

Meanwhile, speaking in Tizi Ouzou, Monder Bouden, secretary-general of the National Democratic Rally (RND), said his party prioritised the implementation of concrete local projects aligned with citizens’ expectations and regional economic potential.

Bouden highlighted Tizi Ouzou’s tourism assets, advocating increased investment in hotel infrastructure and the development of mountain tourism as a driver of local economic growth.

In M’Sila, Fatima-Zohra Zerouati, president of Tajamou Amel El Djazair (TAJ), underscored the importance of women’s participation in the legislative elections, both as candidates and voters, arguing that greater female involvement would contribute to the country’s development trajectory.

Lamine Osmani, president of the Sawt Echaâb party, called during a rally in Tiaret for the optimal utilisation of Algeria’s agricultural and economic potential to strengthen food security.

While acknowledging the progress already achieved, Osmani said further gains remained possible through policies designed to support the state’s strategic objectives of increasing agricultural output and expanding exports.

In Aïn Témouchent, Djamel Benabdeslam, president of the Front for New Algeria (FAN), described the forthcoming elections as a major national event with strategic significance for both citizens and state institutions.

He argued that the vote would contribute to strengthening democratic practices and consolidating Algeria’s institutional framework.

At a rally in Djelfa, Abdelkader Bengrina, president of the El Binaa Al Watani Movement, focused on the economic potential of the wilaya, particularly in livestock production.

Bengrina said Djelfa could become an integrated hub for meat production through the development of processing industries, the enhancement of animal resources and greater support for livestock breeders.

He described the legislative elections as an important democratic mechanism enabling voters to choose representatives capable of conveying the concerns of young people and broader segments of society.

For his part, Abdelali Hassani Cherif, president of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), reiterated in Mostaganem that his party’s programme is built around three core pillars: culture, sovereignty and economic recovery.

Regarding economic development, he highlighted Mostaganem’s potential in fisheries, tourism and agriculture, arguing that these sectors could play a significant role in diversifying and strengthening the national economy.

Meanwhile, Workers’ Party (PT) Secretary-General Louisa Hanoune urged citizens at a rally in Boumerdès to participate actively in the July 2 vote, describing the election as an important opportunity to advance citizens’ aspirations and secure further social and economic gains.

The campaign for Algeria’s legislative elections, which officially began on June 9, will continue until June 29. Voters are expected to elect members of the People’s National Assembly (APN) on July 2.
