inDrive Algeria Head Wail Almamma Highlights Market Expansion, User Advantages and Growth Strategy in Exclusive Dzair Tube Interview

BY Dr. Hana Saada

ALGIERS — The General Manager of inDrive in Algeria, Wail Almamma, detailed the company’s expansion strategy, operational framework, safety systems, user feedback mechanisms, and seasonal incentive programmes during an extensive interview with Dzair Tube.

Since its launch in Algeria in 2023, the ride-hailing platform has recorded strong growth, extending its operations beyond the capital to major cities including Oran and Blida, before gradually broadening its coverage nationwide. This expansion has been accompanied by the introduction of additional service categories, including motorcycle transport, delivery services, and freight solutions.

Almamma said the Algerian market has proven highly responsive to digital mobility services, describing it as a “high-potential environment” for transport innovation. He noted that beyond operational challenges, the platform offers structural advantages to users through flexible pricing and direct negotiation between drivers and passengers.

A defining feature of inDrive’s model in Algeria is its peer-to-peer fare system, which enables users to agree on prices directly within the application, a mechanism designed to balance supply and demand while increasing flexibility and user control.

Almamma emphasised that the company’s strategy extends beyond expansion to include service accessibility, user experience, and equitable mobility solutions, allowing riders greater pricing control while broadening earning opportunities for drivers.

He explained that inDrive operates a structured customer engagement and feedback system designed to process all user input, including complaints, improvement requests, service feedback, and appreciation messages. Users can submit requests directly via the application — the fastest and most efficient channel — or through email and official company offices.

Incoming reports, he said, are handled through a hybrid system combining automated processing for simple or repetitive cases and dedicated teams for complex issues requiring escalation. Almamma stressed that all complaints are systematically reviewed as part of continuous service monitoring and quality assurance.

On safety and incident management, he outlined preventive measures including driver training programmes, awareness initiatives, and vehicle monitoring systems. While acknowledging that incidents remain an inherent aspect of mobility services, he said responses vary depending on case complexity, ranging from direct intervention to structured assistance when required.

The company also highlighted a partnership with the insurance provider SAA, offering a 50% reduction in insurance costs for drivers, covering both vehicles and passengers, aimed at strengthening protection and improving working conditions.

Almamma confirmed ongoing investments in artificial intelligence-based safety tools, alongside transparency features such as driver and passenger ratings, fare visibility, and identity verification systems, with trust identified as a core pillar of long-term growth in Algeria.

Looking ahead, he announced a major seasonal incentive programme for drivers during the summer period, including competitions offering prizes such as cars, motorcycles, travel packages, and fully funded VIP trips. The initiative is designed to support driver engagement and ensure service availability during peak seasonal demand.

He said additional financial rewards will be introduced to address periods of low driver availability, ensuring continuous service during off-peak hours. The company also aims to stabilise supply during high-demand summer mobility peaks, when travel activity increases significantly across coastal and urban areas.

Almamma also announced plans to expand the motorcycle transport service, recently introduced in Oran. He said the service has shown strong demand, particularly due to its appeal for both rapid urban mobility and tourism-related experiences, allowing passengers to explore cities in a more flexible way.

Addressing operational challenges, he pointed to continued efforts to improve geographic coverage across Algeria, noting that full national penetration remains ongoing due to the country’s size and regional diversity.

He also highlighted the evolving regulatory environment, stating that clearer frameworks for digital mobility services would improve operational efficiency and reduce misunderstandings between stakeholders.

Almamma concluded by describing Algeria as a dynamic and highly competitive market, stressing that success depends on a deep understanding of local user expectations and continuous adaptation to consumer behaviour, particularly in a context where users are increasingly selective and quality-oriented.
