BRUSSELS — The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaïb, held a high-level coordination meeting on Tuesday at the Algerian Embassy in Brussels with the heads of consular posts from Northern Europe, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was dedicated to a comprehensive review of consular activity, including an assessment of progress in the implementation of ongoing reform programmes aimed at modernising consular services. Central to the discussions were the accelerated rollout of digitalisation, the simplification of administrative procedures, and the improvement of reception conditions and citizen support services across consular structures.

Officials also examined measures targeting the Algerian diaspora established in the region, with emphasis placed on strengthening proximity-based services, enhancing communication initiatives, and consolidating mechanisms for listening, assistance, and follow-up, in order to reinforce institutional ties between the community abroad and Algeria.

The session further reviewed preparations for the upcoming summer travel season, traditionally marked by increased movements of expatriate Algerians returning home. Chaïb underscored the importance of ensuring optimal reception conditions and streamlined facilitation measures for nationals travelling to Algeria, stressing the need for improved coordination and responsiveness across consular services.

The meeting forms part of broader government efforts to modernise external administrative services and enhance engagement with the Algerian community abroad through more efficient, accessible, and digitally enabled consular governance.
