Police services in Boufarik have arrested the suspect responsible for a fatal road accident that led to the death of a two-year-old child, after initially attempting to flee the scene, according to security sources.
The accident occurred inside the Boufarik underpass on Ahmed Bougara Street, involving two light vehicles. The crash caused serious injuries to a father and his young son, who was later pronounced dead due to severe head injuries.
Authorities reported that one of the individuals found inside the second vehicle showed signs of facial injuries and strong traces of alcohol. A medical test confirmed a high level of alcohol intoxication.
The suspect initially claimed he was not the driver of the vehicle, stating that the actual driver had fled the scene after also consuming alcohol.
Following an appeal for witnesses and intensive investigations, police eventually located and arrested the driver. He was subsequently presented before the public prosecutor at the Boufarik court on charges of involuntary manslaughter, drunk driving, and hit-and-run.
