Chanegriha inspects 5th Military Region, stresses combat readiness and counterterrorism efforts

Algiers – General of Army Saïd Chanegriha, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), began a working and inspection visit on Tuesday to the 5th Military Region in Constantine, according to a Defence Ministry statement.
The visit forms part of field assessments of the 2025–2026 combat preparedness programme across the military regions.
Upon arrival, Chanegriha paid tribute to national martyr Zighoud Youcef, whose name is borne by the regional command headquarters, laying a wreath and observing a minute of silence.
In an orientation meeting with regional officers, broadcast via videoconference, he reiterated the ANP’s commitment, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to strengthening operational readiness and modernising defence capabilities to ensure constitutional missions are fulfilled.
He stressed that military effectiveness depends on sustained training, high operational preparedness, and tactical adaptability, noting that “true military superiority lies not only in weapons but in resilience and readiness.”
Chanegriha also urged intensified efforts in counterterrorism operations and the fight against organised crime, particularly in sensitive border areas, calling for continued vigilance against arms and drug trafficking networks.
He commended units involved in recent counterterrorism operations, praising results achieved in dismantling armed groups and criminal networks.
The visit concluded with briefings from regional personnel reaffirming their readiness to continue strengthening combat capabilities and territorial security.
