ALGIERS, July 8 — General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Algeria’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), visited the Cherchell Military Academy “Late President Houari Boumediene” on Wednesday, ahead of the institution’s annual graduation ceremony, the Ministry of National Defence (MDN) said.

According to an MDN statement, Chanegriha’s visit came on the eve of the academy’s graduation ceremony for its latest officer promotions and included meetings with senior military officials, academy staff, instructors and cadets.

He was accompanied by the Commander of the Land Forces, the Commander of the First Military Region and the Commandant of the Cherchell Military Academy.

Focus on military education

Following an official welcoming ceremony, Chanegriha chaired an orientation meeting with academy personnel and cadets, during which he congratulated officers from the graduating classes and reaffirmed the strategic importance of military education within Algeria’s defence policy.

According to the ministry, he described the Cherchell Military Academy as a reflection of the standards achieved by Algeria’s military education system, citing its longstanding reputation, international standing and the professional competence of its graduates.

Chanegriha said these achievements reflect the sustained attention given by the High Command of the People’s National Army to military education in line with the directives of President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Preparing officers for evolving security challenges

The Army Chief said the academy’s long-term objective is to produce officers possessing strong professional competence, discipline and the ability to adapt rapidly to changes in the operational environment.

He added that the academy’s development over the years—including investments in infrastructure, qualified instructors and modern teaching resources—has strengthened its capacity to prepare officers for increasingly complex military missions.

According to the MDN, Chanegriha emphasized that future officers must be capable of mastering contemporary combat methods and emerging operational doctrines while maintaining a broad understanding of military sciences.

Technology at the centre of modern warfare

The Army Chief also highlighted the growing role of advanced technologies in modern military operations.

He said today’s operational environment increasingly requires expertise in areas including unmanned aerial systems (drones), electronic warfare, cyber defence and artificial intelligence, describing these capabilities as essential components of contemporary battlefields.

According to the ministry, integrating these technologies into military education remains a priority in preparing officers to respond effectively to evolving defence and security challenges.

Cadets reaffirm commitment

At the conclusion of the meeting, cadets were given the opportunity to address the Army Chief, expressing satisfaction with the conditions under which they completed their military training.

According to the MDN, they also reaffirmed their readiness to fulfil their national duties and their commitment to contributing to the preservation of Algeria’s unity, security and stability as they prepare to join the ranks of the People’s National Army.
