President Abdelmadjid Tebboune paid tribute to veterans of the National Liberation Army, families of national duty martyrs and war veterans during Algeria’s National People’s National Army Day ceremony, reaffirming the country’s recognition of military service, national sacrifice and the enduring bond between the armed forces and the Algerian people.

ALGIERS — Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, presided on Tuesday over the official ceremony marking the National People’s National Army (PNA) Day, paying tribute to veterans, families of martyrs and wounded servicemen in recognition of their contribution to Algeria’s independence, sovereignty and national security.

Held at the National Army Club in Beni Messous, west of Algiers, the ceremony formed part of the country’s annual observance of 4 August, designated as National People’s National Army Day.

This year’s commemoration was organised under the slogan: “People’s National Army: Algeria First, Algeria Second, Algeria Always,” reflecting the military institution’s enduring commitment to national unity, sovereignty and public service.

During the ceremony, President Tebboune presented certificates of honour and national recognition to several categories of military personnel and beneficiaries, including retired members of the National Liberation Army (NLA), whose service symbolizes the historical continuity between Algeria’s liberation struggle and today’s People’s National Army.

The President also honoured the families of national duty martyrs, recognising the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the service of the nation, as well as severely wounded veterans and war-disabled servicemen injured during Algeria’s counterterrorism campaign.

Upon his arrival at the National Army Club, President Tebboune was received by Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army.

Following the performance of the national anthem, the President reviewed military detachments assembled to render honours before greeting senior commanders, officers and military officials attending the ceremony.

The event forms part of Algeria’s broader national programme dedicated to preserving the memory of the liberation struggle and recognising the continued role of the People’s National Army as the legitimate successor to the National Liberation Army in safeguarding the country’s independence, territorial integrity and constitutional institutions.

Through the annual observance, Algerian authorities seek to honour generations of servicemen whose sacrifices have shaped the country’s modern history while reaffirming the enduring relationship between the People’s National Army and the Algerian people, a bond consistently presented by the country’s leadership as one of the principal pillars of national cohesion and state stability.
