Aïd El Adha Supply: Algeria Launches Online Sale of Imported Sheep via Adhahi.dz Platform
BY Dr. Hana Saada
The sale of imported sheep for Aïd El Adha has officially been launched through the digital platform adhahi.dz, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Saturday, as part of preparations for the 2026 religious festival and efforts to stabilise seasonal livestock prices.
Acting under presidential directives, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries has initiated the structured rollout of a national distribution scheme involving the import of one million sheep, a measure designed to secure supply and contain the sharp price inflation traditionally observed in the lead-up to the Eid season.
The programme, implemented for a second consecutive year, sets purchase prices between 48,000 and 50,000 dinars depending on the payment method. Transactions conducted online are priced at 48,000 dinars, electronic terminal payments at 49,000 dinars, and cash payments at 50,000 dinars, reflecting a policy incentive toward digital payment channels.
In this context, the Ministry has confirmed that all sales will be conducted exclusively through the adhahi.dz platform, with no alternative distribution channels recognised. The system has been designed to centralise demand, improve traceability, and enhance transparency in allocation.
The registration process is fully digital and structured in sequential stages. Applicants must first submit personal identification data, including national identification details, contact information, and place of residence, alongside their preferred payment method. This is followed by identity verification through a security code sent via SMS, then formal validation of the reservation, and finally real-time tracking of the request through a personal user account. Successful applicants are subsequently notified of payment details and designated collection points.
Imported livestock arrivals, primarily sourced from Spain and Romania, began on 26 March with the first shipment of 12,350 head arriving at the port of Algiers. Additional consignments have since been received across Béjaïa, Skikda and Oran, under coordinated logistical supervision by port authorities.
The operation is supported by veterinary quarantine systems established nationwide to ensure health compliance and sanitary monitoring throughout the supply chain. Continuous veterinary oversight is maintained from quarantine facilities through to distribution sites up to the day of sacrifice.
Deliveries are scheduled to continue progressively until 20 May 2026, with the objective of ensuring market supply, reducing speculative pressures, and contributing to price stabilisation during one of the most sensitive seasonal demand peaks in the domestic livestock market.
