Air Algérie on Tuesday inaugurated a new direct air service linking Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport with Libreville, Gabon, as part of its ongoing expansion across the African continent.
The inaugural flight ceremony took place under the supervision of Abdelghani Dridi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport, alongside the Ambassador of the Republic of Gabon to Algiers, Marie Rosine Mimi Itsana, as well as senior executives from Air Algérie and representatives of national institutions.
According to Air Algérie’s Commercial Division Chief, Abd Manaf Hadefi, the launch of the Algiers–Libreville route forms part of broader efforts to enhance air connectivity between Algeria and African countries, with the aim of strengthening economic, commercial, and cultural exchanges across the continent.
Hadefi added that the ongoing programme to upgrade and renew Air Algérie’s fleet is expected to further support this momentum and consolidate the airline’s role in advancing continental cooperation.
For her part, the Gabonese ambassador to Algeria underlined the importance of the new air link, stating that it reflects the shared ambition of both countries to deepen bilateral cooperation within the framework of African solidarity and to reinforce ties between their peoples across multiple sectors, including economic, commercial, and cultural cooperation.
The launch of this route aligns with public authorities’ strategic orientation to expand Air Algérie’s presence across Africa, thereby broadening prospects for South–South cooperation. The new service also complements recently opened routes such as Algiers–Abuja and Algiers–N’Djamena.
The Algiers–Libreville connection will operate twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with a transit via Douala, Cameroon.
