Morocco–Zionist Military Partnership Deepens Under Cover of Middle East War, With Schemes Targeting Algeria and Western Sahara
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Rabat has significantly expanded its military and security cooperation with the Zionist entity under the cover of wider conflicts in the Middle East, according to an investigative report published by the Spanish newspaper El Independiente on 17 June 2026.
The report states that Morocco has become “Israel’s most vital security partner in Africa”, highlighting an intensification of coordination in intelligence, surveillance, and military technology. It adds that this deepening partnership is occurring as global attention remains focused on ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
According to the same source, military cooperation includes the deployment of surveillance drones over Western Sahara territory, where they are used in what is described as “hunter-killer” tactics involving continuous aerial monitoring and immediate strikes upon detection of movement.
The report cites documentation from the Sahrawi Mine Action Coordination Office (SMACO), stating that drone strikes have resulted in 160 civilian deaths between the resumption of hostilities in 2020 and 2024. It also refers to a June 8 incident in which three Sahrawi fighters were killed, including senior Polisario Front commander Lahbib Mohamed Abdelaziz, after a drone strike targeted their vehicle near the separation wall.
The investigation further states that Morocco has begun producing and stockpiling Zionist-made “SpyX” loitering munitions manufactured locally near Casablanca by BlueBird Aero Systems, a subsidiary linked to Israel’s Ministry of Defence.
Military analyst Akram Kharief is quoted as saying that Moroccan forces are storing these systems for potential future confrontation scenarios involving Algeria, rather than deploying them in current operations.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is cited as reporting a sharp increase in Zionist arms exports to Morocco in 2025, with the Zionist entity becoming the second-largest supplier of military equipment after the United States. According to the data, Zionist-origin systems accounted for 24% of Morocco’s arms imports in 2025, up from 11% the previous year.
The report lists surveillance systems, cyber tools including Pegasus software, drones, air defence systems, missiles, and armoured vehicle weaponry among the main categories of equipment supplied.
It adds that the strengthening of military ties between Rabat and Tel Aviv reflects a political decision shaped by diplomatic isolation and strategic calculations, including efforts to secure support for Morocco’s position on Western Sahara.
The report also refers to coordinated diplomatic and media campaigns in Washington involving think tanks, and to what it describes as disinformation narratives targeting Algeria.
Analysts cited in the report argue that Morocco’s defence doctrine is increasingly aligned with Zionist military practices, including the use of advanced surveillance and remote strike capabilities across contested territories.
The investigation concludes that despite expanding military cooperation, regional tensions remain high and unresolved, particularly regarding Western Sahara and Algeria–Morocco relations.
