Legislative Campaign: Key Highlights from the 7th Day of Electoral Activity
By Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS, June 15 — The seventh day of Algeria’s campaign for the legislative elections scheduled for 2 July saw continued nationwide mobilisation by political parties, with candidates and party leaders reiterating calls for strong voter participation and outlining their respective political and socio-economic programmes.
The Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party (PT), Louisa Hanoune, campaigned in Constantine, where she urged citizens to turn out in large numbers on election day and support her party’s lists. She described her formation as embodying republican values and participatory democratic principles.
Hanoune called for the continuation of structural reforms aimed at reinforcing development programmes on the ground, strengthening the role of the People’s National Assembly (APN), expanding the prerogatives of local elected officials, and consolidating the municipality as the cornerstone of local development.
In Sétif, Abdelkader Bengrina, president of the El Bina El Watani Movement, emphasised industrial development as a key lever for economic growth. He stressed the importance of broad citizen participation in the electoral process, arguing that national development requires inclusive engagement and the selection of competent representatives capable of advancing institutional consolidation.
He also highlighted the role of a strengthened parliament with enhanced legislative and oversight powers, describing it as essential to supporting state-building and development policies.
Also speaking in Sétif, Mohamed Douibi, Secretary-General of the Ennahda Movement, presented his party’s electoral platform, describing the legislative elections as a step towards “a stronger Algeria.” He renewed his appeal for voters to participate actively and choose representatives capable of conveying citizens’ concerns to the APN.
The Ennahda programme prioritises political reforms, social justice, sustainable economic development, improved purchasing power, and stronger social protection mechanisms.
In Tlemcen, Lamine Osmani, president of Sawt Echaab, called for high voter turnout, highlighting the qualifications of his party’s candidates and their readiness to assume parliamentary responsibilities.
In Bordj Bou Arreridj, Youcef Aouchiche, First Secretary of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), underlined the importance of broad participation in the upcoming vote, describing it as a national responsibility and a key democratic exercise.
He called for the election of candidates with the competence and capacity to represent citizens effectively and defend their socio-economic aspirations.
Aouchiche detailed his party’s programme, which focuses on political reform, social justice, sustainable economic development, improved purchasing power, and the strengthening of social protection systems.
He also stressed the need to build a productive national economy based on investment and value creation, alongside prioritised reforms in education and healthcare and improved public service delivery.
Across several wilayas, candidates continued to adopt proximity-based campaign strategies aimed at engaging voters directly and reinforcing electoral support ahead of the 2 July legislative ballot.
