Algeria is accelerating the delivery of infrastructure projects in the southern regions, particularly in transport, with several works nearing completion, Public Works Minister Abdelkader Djellaoui said during a parliamentary session on oral questions at the National People’s Assembly.

Djellaoui said ongoing projects in the Grand South, including airport infrastructure, are expected to be completed within short timelines, adding that measures have been taken to speed up construction works.

He cited the new runway and related facilities at Tin Zaouatine airport in In Guezzam province, which he said are 93% complete and scheduled to be operational before the end of 2026.

The minister also referred to maintenance works on National Road RN1 linking In Salah to In Guezzam via Tamanrasset, describing it as a strategic corridor for the region.

Separately, Djellaoui said he will propose to the Finance Ministry the lifting of a freeze on a bridge project at Pont Blanc roundabout in Annaba. He added that the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment (ANESRIF) is currently examining a project to connect the new city of Benmostefa Benaouda to the national rail network.
