Algeria Issues Commemorative Postage Stamps Honouring Liamine Zeroual and Values of Dialogue and Tolerance
— Dr. Hana Saada
The Minister of Postal Services and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, presided on Sunday over the issuance of two new postage stamps, according to a statement from the ministry.
The first stamp pays tribute to former President and moudjahid Liamine Zeroual, in recognition of his national career and contributions to the Algerian state during a pivotal period in its institutional development. The ministry noted that the initiative reflects appreciation for his role in strengthening republican institutions.
The second stamp, titled “Living Together”, commemorates the historic visit of Pope Leo XIV to Algeria and highlights the values of dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence between religions and cultures, which Algeria has consistently promoted throughout its history.
Zerrouki stressed on the occasion that the postage stamp remains a “cultural and documentary symbol par excellence,” serving to preserve national memory while conveying Algeria’s messages and values internationally. He added that such commemorative issues help document key milestones, figures, and events in both national and human history.
