Algerian Football Federation Extends Petković Contract Until 2028 Following World Cup Qualification

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on Saturday the extension of national team coach Vladimir Petković’s contract until 31 July 2028, along with the renewal of his entire technical staff, without disclosing further contractual details, including performance targets.
In a statement, the FAF highlighted the results achieved under Petković since his appointment on 29 February 2024, noting an overall positive record of 28 matches, with 21 wins, four draws, and three defeats. The team scored 67 goals and conceded 22 during this period.
The decision follows what the federation described as improved sporting outcomes, including qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking Algeria’s return after missing the 2018 and 2022 editions, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after early exits in 2021 and 2023.
The FAF also pointed to progress in FIFA rankings, with Algeria moving from 43rd globally (7th in Africa) at the time of Petković’s arrival to 28th worldwide and 4th on the continent.
The federation said the renewal reflects a strategy of continuity and technical stability aimed at sustaining performance and achieving future objectives.
The contracts of assistant coach Davide Morandi, goalkeeping coach Guido Nati, and fitness coach Paolo Rongoni were also extended for two additional years.
