Algerian State Secretary Chaib Engages UK Diaspora, Highlights Consular Modernisation and Education Coordination Initiative

Algerian Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, held an expanded meeting with members of the Algerian community in the United Kingdom, in the presence of the ambassador of Algeria and the consul general, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting forms part of his ongoing working visit to the UK, following an inspection tour of the Algerian Consulate General in London.

In his address, Chaib stressed that the meeting reflects the “particular attention” granted by Algeria’s highest authorities to its diaspora, as well as their commitment to maintaining direct and continuous dialogue with citizens abroad, listening to their concerns, and strengthening their contribution to national development processes.

He outlined ongoing measures undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to improve services for Algerian citizens abroad, notably through the modernisation and digitalisation of consular services, the simplification of administrative procedures, and the reinforcement of communication mechanisms to better address diaspora concerns.

Chaib also referred to initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between the diaspora and the homeland, particularly efforts to preserve national identity among younger generations. On this occasion, he announced the launch of a coordination framework for Algerian schools in the United Kingdom, designed to unify efforts in teaching Arabic and reinforcing cultural and national reference points for children of the community.

The meeting also served as a platform for open dialogue, during which the Secretary of State reviewed concerns and proposals raised by community members on various issues affecting their daily lives, reiterating the state’s commitment to improving services and enhancing diaspora participation in national affairs.

Chaib further emphasized Algeria’s commitment to expanding the representation of the national community within institutional structures and broadening its role in public life, calling on diaspora members to remain actively engaged in national issues and to continue contributing to the country’s development and international standing.
