ALGIERS — Council of the Nation President Azzouz Nasri travelled to Doha on Wednesday to present Algeria’s official condolences to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following the death of Emir Father Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in a visit reflecting the longstanding political and fraternal ties between the two countries.

The visit was undertaken on the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who entrusted Nasri with delivering a written message expressing Algeria’s condolences and solidarity with Qatar’s leadership and people during their period of mourning.

Received at Lusail Palace, Nasri conveyed Tebboune’s “sincere condolences and profound sympathy,” while reaffirming Algeria’s support for Qatar at a moment of national bereavement. The presidential message also prayed for God’s mercy and forgiveness for the late Emir Father and extended condolences to the ruling family and the Qatari people.

During the audience, Nasri paid tribute to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s leadership, describing him as a statesman who devoted his life to the service of Qatar and oversaw a period of transformative national development that elevated the country’s regional and international standing.

He also highlighted the late Emir Father’s contributions to dialogue, mediation, peace-building and humanitarian action, noting that his diplomatic legacy extended well beyond Qatar’s borders.

Nasri further underscored the historic relationship between Algeria and Qatar, recalling the late Emir Father’s longstanding support for bilateral relations and describing his role in strengthening cooperation between the two countries as one that would remain firmly embedded in Algeria’s collective memory.

Upon his arrival in Doha, the Algerian delegation was welcomed by Qatar’s Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, the Personal Representative of the Emir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, and Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, alongside members of the ruling family.

Nasri was accompanied by Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport Minister Saïd Sayoud, Major General Mohamed Salah Ben Bicha, Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defence, Algerian Ambassador to Qatar Salah Attia, as well as senior officials from the Council of the Nation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
