Algeria, Niger Expand Strategic Energy Cooperation Through Electricity and Infrastructure Projects
The discussions focused on expanding bilateral partnership in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on electricity supply, infrastructure development, and technical cooperation.
Adjal reviewed ongoing joint projects, notably a power generation facility being developed by Sonelgaz in Niger, which he described as a flagship project aligned with Algeria’s commitment to supporting improved electricity access in the neighbouring country, in line with presidential directives.
He said the project, delivered in record time, represents a strategic milestone in bilateral energy cooperation and reflects the operational capacity of Algerian energy firms.
Talks also covered priority areas including grid rehabilitation, institutional restructuring of Niger’s energy sector, and the adoption of modern digital systems to enhance sector efficiency.
Algeria also reiterated its readiness to support capacity-building programmes for Nigerien technical personnel through specialised training within Sonelgaz institutions.
For her part, Niger’s Energy Minister welcomed the depth of cooperation between both countries, praising the rapid completion of the power project in Niamey and expressing interest in further Algerian technical expertise for upcoming energy initiatives.
She reaffirmed Niger’s commitment to expanding energy cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties across new development and infrastructure domains.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Energy in Algiers with senior officials in attendance, forms part of broader efforts to implement presidential directives aimed at reinforcing Algeria’s role in African development and regional integration through strategic partnerships.
