Algiers – Algeria has imported more than 820,000 sheep to date as part of its national programme to secure one million heads of livestock ahead of Eid El Adha, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries.

The ministry’s digital platform “Adhahi” (adhahi.dz), launched to manage the reservation and sale of imported sheep, indicated that 821,797 sheep have either entered national territory, are currently being transported, or are in the process of loading and import operations.

Of this total, 576,387 sheep have already arrived in Algeria through approved import channels, while 245,410 remain in transit aboard ships and aircraft or are being loaded at ports and airports. The operations currently involve eight vessels and aircraft actively transporting livestock, alongside 70 additional units engaged in loading and unloading processes.

The platform, designed to update data in real time, aims to ensure transparency and traceability in the distribution process and allows citizens to monitor availability through https://adhahi.dz/moutons-nationaux.

The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the operation, launched on 18 April, is conducted exclusively through the digital platform in line with presidential directives, warning against any unofficial sales channels.

Retail prices have been set at 50,000 DA for cash payments, 49,000 DA via electronic payment terminals, and 48,000 DA for online transactions, as part of efforts to promote modern payment systems and facilitate access for citizens.

The government aims to complete the import and distribution process 48 hours before Eid El Adha 2026, in accordance with instructions issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Authorities have also instructed that imported female lambs be excluded from slaughter and directed toward breeding programmes in designated facilities to preserve national livestock resources.
