Algeria Reviews Progress on Trans-Saharan Highway and Advances Infrastructure Cooperation with Chad
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, chaired a coordination meeting on Monday evening at the ministry’s headquarters to review and monitor progress on the Trans-Saharan Highway, according to an official statement.
The meeting follows a previous session held on 26 April and forms part of ongoing efforts to track the status of this strategic transport corridor. It was attended by the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation, Abed Hallouz, alongside senior ministry officials and executives from national companies and affiliated bodies.
Discussions focused on the current state of the project and mechanisms to ensure its continued advancement, given its importance as a regional connectivity axis linking North Africa to sub-Saharan Africa.
The meeting also addressed memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements signed on 22 April 2026 between Algeria and Chad in the field of public works and infrastructure, aimed at strengthening bilateral collaboration and supporting the development of cross-border connectivity projects.
