Algeria Sets 18 May Deadline for Signature Submissions Ahead of 2 July Legislative Polls

The Independent National Authority for Elections (ANIE) has set 18 May 2026 as the deadline for submitting individual signature forms required for candidate lists ahead of the legislative elections scheduled for 2 July.

In a statement outlining procedures for filing collective candidacy declarations for the People’s National Assembly (APN), ANIE said lists of candidates must deposit signed endorsement forms before the legal cut-off date with the chair of the wilaya electoral commission, or with diplomatic and consular electoral bodies abroad, depending on jurisdiction. The forms will be reviewed, validated and formalised in an official report to be included in the full candidacy file.

The authority also specified that the designated representative responsible for submitting the collective application must themselves be included on the candidate list.

Separately, ANIE acting president Karim Khelfane chaired a coordination meeting via videoconference with wilaya and municipal coordinators, as well as members of ad hoc commissions and technical staff, to review procedures for receiving, processing and examining candidacy files within statutory deadlines.

The meeting focused on legal and technical requirements governing the electoral process under Algeria’s amended organic electoral law, with authorities stressing procedural compliance to ensure orderly management of the 2 July legislative vote.
