Algiers Vehicle Theft Network Dismantled, Five Suspects Arrested
By Dr. Hana Saada
The Algiers Wilaya Police announced on Sunday the dismantling of a criminal network involved in the theft of parked cars and trucks across the capital.
The operation led to the recovery of two passenger vehicles, one truck, over 264 million centimes, 2,510 euros, as well as licence plates, spare parts and equipment used in vehicle theft operations. Five suspects were arrested.
The investigation was launched following a complaint from a citizen whose vehicle had been stolen. Field inquiries enabled the identification of members of the network before coordinated search operations were carried out in cooperation with the competent public prosecutor’s office.
Authorities said the dismantling of the group reflects ongoing security efforts targeting organised crime networks linked to vehicle theft and trafficking in stolen goods, a phenomenon affecting several major urban centres and often involving structured resale channels for spare parts.
Following completion of legal procedures, the suspects were presented before the public prosecutor at the tribunal of El Harrach.
