Algerian Walis Intensify Field Visits to Speed Up Priority Development Projects
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria’s walis (governors) have stepped up field visits across the country to accelerate the implementation of key development projects and improve public services, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Regional Planning, the inspections are part of government directives aimed at closely monitoring projects with a direct impact on citizens’ daily lives.
The visits cover priority sectors including housing, urban development, health and education, with a particular focus on school infrastructure delivery, alongside water resources, sanitation, public lighting, transport and sports facilities.
Authorities said the objective is to ensure compliance with quality standards and align delivery with local needs, while strengthening the efficiency of public service provision.
Walis have also been instructed to identify and remove administrative and technical bottlenecks slowing project execution, and to ensure strict adherence to contractual deadlines by contractors and project owners.
The government said the intensified field oversight is intended to accelerate construction timelines and enable the rapid commissioning of public infrastructure across regions.
Officials framed the approach as part of broader efforts to reinforce local governance and reduce territorial disparities through closer administrative supervision and faster project delivery.
