Algeria, Spain Seek to Expand Public Works Cooperation and Technical Partnerships

ALGIERS — Algeria and Spain have reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of public works and infrastructure development following high-level talks held Tuesday in Algiers between Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, and Spain’s Ambassador to Algeria, Ramiro Fernández Bachiller.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, the meeting took place at the ministry’s headquarters at the request of the Spanish ambassador and focused on reviewing the current state of bilateral relations while exploring new opportunities to deepen cooperation in infrastructure and engineering.
The discussions formed part of ongoing efforts by both countries to reinforce their longstanding political and economic relations through practical cooperation in sectors that support sustainable development and infrastructure modernisation.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the historical and economic ties linking Algeria and Spain and exchanged views on prospects for expanding cooperation in the public works sector. The talks reflected the common determination of both governments to further promote Algerian-Spanish collaboration in infrastructure projects and technical cooperation.
Particular emphasis was placed on encouraging stronger partnerships between engineering consultancies, specialised public institutions and infrastructure companies from both countries. Officials highlighted the importance of facilitating greater exchanges of technical expertise, engineering know-how and professional experience to enhance project implementation and institutional capacity.
The two sides also stressed that expanding cooperation between specialised organisations would contribute to the development of high-quality infrastructure projects capable of serving the common interests of both countries while supporting broader socio-economic development objectives.
The meeting underscored the strategic importance both Algeria and Spain attach to technical cooperation as a means of promoting innovation, improving engineering capabilities and fostering sustainable infrastructure development through knowledge transfer and institutional collaboration.
According to the ministry, both parties expressed their intention to continue coordination efforts and deepen professional exchanges, reinforcing a partnership aimed at generating mutually beneficial projects and strengthening bilateral cooperation in one of the key sectors underpinning economic growth and regional connectivity.
