Algerian Government Reviews National Natural History Museum Project, Advances Entrepreneurship in Vocational Education

ALGIERS — Algeria’s government has reviewed a draft proposal to establish the National Museum of Natural History of Algeria, an initiative designed to strengthen the preservation of the country’s natural heritage, protect biodiversity, support scientific research, and reinforce Algeria’s position as a regional destination for science, culture and sustainable tourism.

The proposal was examined during the government’s weekly meeting chaired on Wednesday by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The planned institution is intended to provide a modern national infrastructure dedicated to the collection, conservation and documentation of Algeria’s natural history collections while ensuring their preservation for future generations. The government said the project forms part of the country’s broader commitments to environmental protection and sustainable development.

According to the statement, the museum is expected to represent a significant step forward in the management of Algeria’s natural heritage by creating specialised facilities capable of preserving scientific collections, enhancing public awareness and supporting research activities related to biodiversity and environmental conservation.

During the same meeting, the government also reviewed a presentation on promoting entrepreneurship within Algeria’s vocational education and training system, in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives aimed at fostering initiative, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among young learners.

The initiative seeks to integrate entrepreneurship into vocational education from the earliest stages of training, enabling students to acquire not only technical expertise but also the managerial and business skills required to establish sustainable enterprises capable of generating economic value.

Rather than focusing solely on preparing graduates for traditional employment, the government said the approach is intended to encourage self-employment, business creation and innovation, contributing to broader national efforts to diversify the economy and strengthen private-sector development.
