Algeria, China Explore Launch of First Direct Air Link Between Algiers and Beijing

ALGIERS — Algeria and China are exploring the establishment of a direct commercial air route linking Algiers and Beijing, as part of broader efforts to strengthen air connectivity and support the growing economic, commercial and tourism ties between the two countries.
The initiative was discussed on Tuesday during a meeting between officials of Algiers Airport Management Company (SGSIA) and a delegation representing Air China, according to a statement issued by the airport operator.
The discussions focused on assessing the feasibility and commercial viability of launching a non-stop service between the Chinese capital and Houari Boumediene International Airport, a project that would mark the first direct air connection between the two capitals.
According to the statement, the meeting also provided an opportunity for the Chinese delegation to review the range of airport services and ground-handling operations available at Algiers International Airport, as part of ongoing technical consultations concerning the potential introduction of the route.
The proposed connection is expected to enhance passenger mobility while facilitating business travel, tourism and trade exchanges between Algeria and China, whose bilateral relations have expanded significantly across infrastructure, investment, energy and industrial cooperation in recent years.
