Algerian Police Arrest Suspect After Violent Assault on Woman in Chlef Captured on Video
Authorities in Algeria’s Chlef Province have arrested a suspect following a violent assault on a woman whose vehicle was attacked with a large bladed weapon. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, prompted a criminal investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.

ALGIERS — Algerian police have arrested a suspect in connection with the violent assault of a woman in the municipality of Chettia, Chlef Province, following an investigation launched after footage of the incident circulated widely across social media platforms.
According to a statement issued by the Chlef Provincial Security Directorate, the suspect used a large bladed weapon to smash the windows of the victim’s vehicle during the attack, which sparked widespread public condemnation after videos of the incident emerged online.
Police said investigators immediately opened a criminal inquiry after identifying the footage, launching extensive field investigations aimed at establishing the suspect’s identity and whereabouts.
The investigation, conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, led to the identification of the perpetrator, whom authorities described as a man in his twenties with a prior criminal record.
The suspect was subsequently apprehended by officers from the Criminal Suppression Brigade following what police described as a carefully planned security operation, despite attempts to evade arrest through deceptive tactics.
Authorities also recovered the bladed weapon used during the assault.
The suspect has been placed under the legal procedures provided for under Algerian law and is expected to be brought before the competent judicial authorities as the investigation continues.
