Algerian Red Crescent Launches Major Relief Operation for Wildfire-Hit Eastern Provinces

The Algerian Red Crescent has deployed a nationwide emergency relief campaign for communities affected by recent wildfires in eastern Algeria, delivering humanitarian assistance, supporting frontline responders and maintaining nationwide operational readiness as firefighting efforts continue.

ALGIERS — The Algerian Red Crescent (ARC) has launched a large-scale humanitarian relief operation for several eastern provinces affected by the recent wildfires, expanding emergency assistance to affected communities while supporting ongoing firefighting and disaster-response efforts.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the organization said the campaign targets the provinces of Béjaïa, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf and Guelma, as part of its rapid disaster-response mechanism and its commitment to assisting populations affected by the fires.

Relief consignments include bottled drinking water, ready-to-eat meals, blankets, mattresses, medicines and essential medical supplies, with priority given to meeting the immediate humanitarian needs of displaced and affected residents.

The operation also provides logistical and humanitarian support to Civil Protection personnel and other field teams engaged in firefighting operations and efforts to safeguard lives and property.

The Algerian Red Crescent said all of its operational structures and provincial committees remain on heightened alert nationwide, with human, logistical and material resources continuing to be mobilized to ensure a rapid and effective response as the situation evolves.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected communities throughout the recovery phase, stressing that it will continue coordinating closely with public authorities and relevant emergency services until the humanitarian consequences of the wildfires have been addressed.

The campaign forms part of Algeria’s broader emergency response to one of the country’s most severe wildfire episodes of the summer, during which state institutions, emergency services, civil society organizations and volunteers have been mobilized to assist affected populations.
