Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina Seek to Expand Energy Partnership
Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab and his Bosnian counterpart discussed expanding cooperation in oil, liquefied natural gas, fertilizers and industrial manufacturing, with Sonatrach expected to play a central role in future joint projects between the two countries.

ALGIERS — Algeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina have agreed to deepen cooperation across the energy sector, including oil, natural gas, fertilizers and industrial manufacturing, as both countries seek to translate growing diplomatic ties into long-term economic partnerships.
The discussions took place on Tuesday during a videoconference between Mohamed Arkab, Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, and Vedran Lakić, Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The meeting was attended by Algeria’s ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, senior officials from both ministries, and executives from Bosnia’s state-owned energy companies, including Energoinvest and the national petroleum company.
The two ministers reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation and explored opportunities to expand collaboration in the hydrocarbons sector, building on the positive momentum generated by recent high-level exchanges between the two countries.
Their discussions focused on cooperation in crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and the fertilizer industry, particularly the production of ammonia and urea. They also examined prospects for developing industries linked to the hydrocarbons sector, including the manufacture of industrial equipment and spare parts, alongside initiatives aimed at promoting technology transfer, knowledge sharing and professional training.
The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation between Sonatrach and Bosnian energy operators, notably Energoinvest and the Bosnian petroleum company, with the aim of expanding industrial and commercial partnerships and exploring investment opportunities in downstream industries.
Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to share its expertise in the oil and gas industry, hydrocarbon marketing, fertilizer production and natural resource valorization, saying stronger cooperation could pave the way for mutually beneficial joint ventures and long-term industrial partnerships.
For his part, Lakić welcomed the quality of bilateral relations and expressed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s interest in expanding cooperation with Algeria, particularly in the fields of oil, gas and fertilizers. He also voiced support for increasing the presence of Bosnian companies in the Algerian market, describing the two countries as having significant potential to build a sustainable economic partnership.
