Algeria, Seychelles Move to Deepen Cooperation Across Tourism, Education and Investment
Algeria and Seychelles have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across tourism, education, sports, culture and investment, with Algiers proposing a tourism cooperation agreement as both countries seek to expand their economic and technical partnership.

ALGIERS — Algeria and Seychelles have agreed to expand cooperation across tourism, education, sports and investment as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen technical and economic partnerships.
The discussions took place on Tuesday as Miloud Benmakhlouf, Algeria’s newly accredited ambassador to Seychelles, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan at the Presidential Palace.
During the meeting, Benmakhlouf proposed establishing a structured framework for future cooperation through the negotiation of a bilateral memorandum of understanding on tourism, underscoring Algeria’s efforts to broaden its partnerships across Africa and promote collaboration in strategic sectors.
President Ramkalawan described Algeria as a valued partner and reaffirmed Seychelles’ commitment to strengthening the longstanding ties between the two countries. He highlighted opportunities for cooperation in higher education and media development, including journalism training and the possible establishment of a media school in Seychelles through exchanges of expertise and professional experience.
With Seychelles set to host the Indian Ocean Island Games next year, sports emerged as another priority area. The two sides explored expanding technical cooperation through exchanges of coaches, training camps and athlete development programmes, while also discussing initiatives to promote ecotourism, strengthen cultural exchanges and encourage greater people-to-people contacts.
Benmakhlouf, who is based in Antananarivo as Algeria’s ambassador to Madagascar and concurrently accredited to Seychelles, Mauritius and Comoros, reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to broadening bilateral cooperation and enhancing economic engagement.
Speaking after the meeting, the ambassador said Algeria was seeking to attract joint investment projects by promoting the opportunities created under the country’s new Investment Law, which offers incentives and legal guarantees aimed at encouraging foreign investors.
The talks reflect Algeria’s broader diplomatic drive to strengthen partnerships across Africa through increased trade, investment and technical cooperation, while supporting sustainable development and regional integration.
