Algeria Reports Six Wildfire Fatalities, Orders Damage Assessment for Compensation
Algeria’s Interior Ministry said six people have died in recent wildfires, ordering governors to conduct a nationwide assessment of losses to pave the way for compensation while reaffirming the state’s full mobilization to contain the fires.

ALGIERS — Algeria’s Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport said on Tuesday that the death toll from the wildfires that have affected several regions of the country in recent days has risen to six, as authorities launched a comprehensive assessment of damages to compensate those affected.
In a statement, the ministry extended its condolences to the families of the victims and announced that governors had been instructed to begin a comprehensive inventory of losses resulting from the forest fires.
The assessment will serve as the basis for compensation measures to be provided by public authorities, following detailed field investigations conducted by provincial committees tasked with evaluating the extent of the damage.
The ministry said the government remained fully mobilized to protect lives and property, deploying extensive human and logistical resources, including aerial firefighting assets such as aircraft and helicopters, to combat fires that have affected forests and agricultural land in several parts of the country.
Authorities said firefighting operations would continue until all active fire hotspots across the national territory are fully extinguished.
The ministry also expressed its appreciation to all personnel involved in the emergency response, including Civil Protection units, the People’s National Army, security services, volunteers and citizens who contributed to firefighting efforts or alerted authorities to emerging fires.
The statement comes as Algeria continues to confront seasonal wildfires that have prompted large-scale emergency operations in several northern and eastern provinces.
