Algeria’s Legislative Campaign Enters Its Fifth Day as Party Leaders Step Up Calls for Participation and Institutional Strengthening
By Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Algeria’s legislative campaign entered its fifth day on Saturday, with political parties intensifying nationwide rallies and local outreach activities across multiple wilayas ahead of the July 2 parliamentary elections.
Campaign activities have focused on voter mobilisation, institutional reform narratives, and appeals for broader civic participation, as party leaders continue to outline their visions for parliamentary representation and governance.
In Aïn Témouchent, El-Karama Party leader Mohamed Daoui underlined the central role of Members of Parliament in legislation, oversight of government action, and the transmission of citizens’ concerns across key sectors, including health, water resources and public works. Speaking at a rally at the Aïssa Messaoudi House of Culture, he urged voters to make informed choices, stressing the importance of selecting candidates deemed capable of effectively carrying out parliamentary duties.
Daoui also welcomed constitutional and electoral reforms introduced under the 2020 constitutional framework, arguing that they had expanded political participation, particularly among youth and women, and called for increased voter turnout under the party’s campaign slogan “Together for Algeria”.
From Boussaâda, Front El Moustakbal leader Fateh Boutbig called for support for what he described as “competencies selected from within society”, emphasizing the need for parliamentary representatives capable of voicing local concerns and ensuring that citizens’ demands are addressed within the National People’s Assembly. He described strong participation on election day as a signal of civic awareness, particularly in light of the city’s recent administrative upgrade.
In Tissemsilt, Sawt Chaâb Party leader Lamine Osmani stressed the importance of electoral awareness based on programme-oriented and competence-based candidate selection. Speaking at a rally held at the Chahid Djilali Bounâama Cultural Centre, he said effective parliamentary performance depends on objective criteria that enable the emergence of a “functional and efficient legislative institution”.
Osmani added that strengthening representative democracy requires qualified elected officials capable of fully exercising legislative and oversight responsibilities, thereby reinforcing trust between citizens and institutions.
From Barika, Talaie El-Hourriyet Party leader Réda Benounane highlighted the significance of the legislative elections in reinforcing popular will and sustaining national development momentum. He called for high voter turnout, describing the election as an opportunity to support economic progress and institutional consolidation. He further pledged that his party’s candidates would prioritize responsiveness to citizens’ concerns and governance based on credibility and responsibility.
In Chlef, Movement El-Bina leader Abdelkader Bengrina emphasized the role of national memory in strengthening unity and fostering a sense of belonging among younger generations. Addressing supporters at the Islamic Cultural Centre, he called for preserving Algeria’s historical legacy as a foundation for national cohesion, while also urging strong participation in the upcoming vote to support institutional stability and development continuity.
Bengrina also reaffirmed his party’s commitment to addressing citizens’ concerns and supporting national and local development dynamics, while highlighting the role of women in the political process.
As the campaign progresses, party leaders continue to converge on themes of participation, institutional legitimacy, and development-oriented governance, with increased emphasis on voter turnout ahead of the July 2 legislative ballot.
