Chaib Highlights Growing Role of Algerian Associations in Germany and Their Contribution to Bilateral Ties

ALGIERS — Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad Sofiane Chaib has praised the growing dynamism of Algerian civil society organisations in Germany, highlighting their contribution to strengthening community cohesion, preserving national identity and promoting Algeria’s image abroad.
Speaking via videoconference at the opening of a meeting bringing together presidents and representatives of Algerian associations active across Germany, Chaib reaffirmed the importance attached by Algeria’s highest authorities to maintaining close engagement with the national community living overseas. The meeting was organised by the Algerian Embassy in Berlin and attended by Algeria’s ambassador to Germany and the Consul General in Frankfurt.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Chaib stressed the government’s commitment to reinforcing mechanisms of dialogue and consultation with Algerians residing abroad, while supporting initiatives that contribute to national interests and strengthen links between the diaspora and their homeland.
The Secretary of State commended the positive momentum characterising Algeria’s associative network in Germany, noting its role in fostering solidarity among members of the community and preserving their attachment to Algeria. He also underlined the contribution of these organisations to projecting a positive image of Algeria and enhancing the country’s visibility and presence within German society.
Chaib further reviewed measures undertaken to implement recommendations emerging from the 2026 Consular Conference, particularly those aimed at encouraging and structuring associative activity and providing support for organisations engaged in practical initiatives benefiting members of the Algerian community abroad.
The discussions also focused on the broader role played by Algerians living in Germany in strengthening relations between the two countries. Chaib emphasized that the diaspora constitutes an important bridge for deepening friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between Algeria and Germany across cultural, economic and human dimensions.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring appropriate follow-up to the recommendations arising from the meeting through coordination between Algeria’s diplomatic and consular representations in Germany. Such efforts, he noted, are intended to address the concerns of community members while further enhancing their contribution as key partners in strengthening people-to-people ties and expanding cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting reflects Algeria’s broader strategy of deepening engagement with its diaspora and recognizing the growing role of overseas Algerian communities in advancing national development objectives and promoting Algeria’s interests internationally.
