Algeria’s Legislative Campaign Enters Tenth Day with Focus on Competence, Participation and Institutional Strength
BY Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Political parties contesting Algeria’s parliamentary elections scheduled for July 2 continued their nationwide campaigns on Thursday, with candidates and party leaders placing renewed emphasis on voter participation, institutional strengthening and the selection of qualified representatives to address citizens’ concerns.
Campaign activities on the tenth day of the electoral race were marked by a broad convergence around themes of economic development, parliamentary effectiveness and the need to reinforce public confidence in state institutions.
Speaking in El Tarf, Abdelali Hassani Cherif, president of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), said his party had fielded “competent and credible” candidates capable of addressing citizens’ concerns within the next People’s National Assembly (APN) and responding to public expectations.
From Batna, Fateh Boutbig, president of El Moustakbal Front, said Algeria’s recent achievements across multiple sectors required the mobilisation of “the energies of all its citizens” to consolidate the country’s economic momentum.
In Chlef, Youcef Aouchiche, first national secretary of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), stated that his party sought to build broad consensus aimed at fostering a “conscious and responsible society,” supported by state institutions that reflect citizens’ aspirations.
Lamine Osmani, president of the Sawt Echaab party, highlighted the diversity and qualifications of his party’s candidates during a campaign event in Mostaganem, saying they were prepared to fulfil parliamentary responsibilities while adhering to the party’s political platform.
Addressing supporters in Mila, National Democratic Rally (RND) Secretary-General Mounder Bouden said the party’s electoral lists included candidates with the expertise needed to meet current challenges, describing them as individuals who remain close to citizens and attentive to their concerns.
In Sidi Bel Abbès, El Fadjr El Djadid party leader Tahar Benbaïbeche said his party’s candidates would work to translate citizens’ expectations into tangible improvements for the future.
Meanwhile, Tajamou Amel El Djazair (TAJ) president Fatima-Zohra Zerouati told supporters in Jijel that her party was relying on candidates with expertise across a range of fields, enabling them to effectively represent citizens’ concerns within the next legislature.
Mohamed Daoui, president of El Karama, called on voters in Oum El-Bouaghi to participate actively in the election and to choose candidates capable of advancing the country’s development agenda.
In Skikda, Ahmed Mahmoud Khouna, vice-president of the El Bina Movement, stressed that the role of parliamentarians extends beyond legislative functions to include parliamentary diplomacy, which he said contributes to strengthening Algeria’s position on the international stage.
Representing the secretary-general of the National Liberation Front (FLN) during a campaign event in Tissemsilt, Tahar Hadjar urged citizens to vote in large numbers, arguing that strong electoral participation would help ensure the election of a representative and effective People’s National Assembly.
Algeria is due to hold legislative elections on July 2 amid ongoing efforts by political parties to mobilise voters and present their programmes on issues ranging from economic diversification and social development to institutional governance and national cohesion.
