Ghali Reaffirms Sahrawi Right to Self-Determination as “Non-Negotiable” in Address on Western Sahara

ALGIERS — Sahrawi President and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front Brahim Ghali said that any solution to the Western Sahara conflict must be approved by the Sahrawi people and must guarantee their “inalienable, non-negotiable and non-delegable” right to self-determination.

In an address delivered Wednesday at the opening of a meeting of Secretaries and Governors, Ghali reviewed the multiple dimensions of the Sahrawi struggle, as well as efforts aimed at circumventing the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, according to the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS).

The statement comes amid accelerated developments surrounding the Western Sahara issue across several fronts, underscoring the strategic importance of the meeting in the current political and security context.

Ghali also referred to intensive and systematic targeting of the Polisario Front by Moroccan authorities, calling for heightened vigilance and organisational cohesion to counter ongoing campaigns aimed at weakening the movement.

He further stressed that the “Moroccan occupation authorities” are engaging in practices involving the dissemination of narcotics and the exploitation of organised crime networks, intended to undermine the Sahrawi liberation struggle and distort its international image.

According to Ghali, the Western Sahara issue is currently facing a “systematic, coordinated and escalating campaign” aimed at depriving the Sahrawi people of their right to self-determination and independence.

He concluded by calling for unity among Sahrawi ranks and expressed confidence in the capacity of the Sahrawi people to adapt to evolving regional and international developments while continuing to pursue their political objectives.
