Algeria’s Security Forces Intercept 127kg of Cannabis Resin in Naâma as Cross-Border Trafficking Networks Come Under Scrutiny

By Dr. Hana Saada

Algeria’s Directorate General of National Security announced on Saturday the seizure of more than 127 kilograms of cannabis resin in Aïn Sefra, in the southern wilaya of Naâma, alongside the arrest of an individual linked to a trafficking network operating along routes extending from Morocco towards central Algeria.

The operation followed extensive field investigations conducted by security services, which led to the identification and disruption of a smuggling attempt intended to distribute the shipment across several central provinces. Acting under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, investigators arrested the suspect and seized the drugs in a residential area of the town. The individual was subsequently presented before the public prosecutor at the Aïn Sefra tribunal.

The seizure adds to a series of similar interdictions recorded in recent months along Algeria’s western and southern corridors involving cross-border narcotics trafficking networks.

Security services refer to cannabis resin trafficking as part of transnational illicit activity characterised by established production and distribution routes.

Authorities state that these networks rely on organised structures and defined routes to transport illicit goods. The persistence of such trafficking routes has been noted in ongoing security operations.

The latest operation forms part of continued efforts by security services focused on interception, disruption and dismantling of trafficking networks before distribution reaches urban centres.

It is one in a series of operations carried out to counter cross-border illicit trafficking.
