Djellaoui Orders Faster Maintenance Works on Algeria’s East-West Motorway

Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, on Sunday ordered an acceleration of maintenance works on the East-West Motorway, amid efforts to address critical blackspots and speed up delayed motorway link projects.
At a review meeting on the national motorway network, officials assessed ongoing maintenance operations across sections in Constantine, Bouira, Mila, Skikda and Bordj Bou Arreridj identified as high-risk pressure points.
Djellaoui called for reinforced temporary and permanent road signage during works and ordered urgent treatment of landslides affecting parts of the strategic corridor. The meeting also reviewed 2026 programmes targeting road safety, traffic conditions and operational reliability across the network.
Authorities further examined preparations for new maintenance projects in Algiers, Boumerdès, Aïn Defla, Guelma and Annaba, alongside delays affecting motorway penetration links. Officials proposed measures to remove technical obstacles and accelerate project delivery, with Djellaoui pressing for tighter field monitoring and faster execution rates.
