Algiers, Algeria | December 5th, 2024 — On Thursday, Karima Tafer, the Secretary of State for Mines, welcomed a delegation from ETEX, a prominent Belgian company specializing in the extraction and transformation of raw mining resources and the manufacturing of modern construction materials. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy’s headquarters, signaling a significant step in fostering collaboration between Algeria’s mining sector and international expertise.
The delegation was led by Bernard Delvaux, CEO of ETEX, and attended by senior officials from the Ministry, including representatives from SONAREM (Algerian Mining Resources Company), ANAM (National Agency for Mining Activities), and ASGA (Algerian Geological Survey). The focus of the discussions was on potential partnerships in the exploitation and transformation of raw materials, particularly gypsum, a key resource in the construction industry.
Bernard Delvaux shared insights into ETEX’s expertise in producing high-quality gypsum-based building materials, such as plasterboards, which have a wide range of applications, including medical use. He emphasized the vast gypsum reserves found across Algeria, specifically in regions like Bordj Bou Arreridj, Batna, Setif, Biskra, Bouira, Bejaia, and Tebessa, which hold significant potential for industrial development.
In response, Karima Tafer reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting ETEX’s investment ventures in Algeria. She emphasized the importance of collaborating with foreign expertise to enhance the mining sector and facilitate the exchange of skills and knowledge. Tafer expressed her enthusiasm for projects that would yield mutual benefits and contribute to the broader economic development of Algeria.
Delvaux also expressed ETEX’s keen interest in expanding its operations in Algeria, drawing on the company’s previous successes in Latin America, Europe, and Africa. With over 13,500 employees and 160 sites across 45 countries, ETEX is a global leader in raw material extraction and modern construction manufacturing.
This meeting is expected to pave the way for strategic partnerships that will not only benefit the mining industry but also enhance Algeria’s position in the global market for construction materials. The collaboration with ETEX marks a pivotal step in Algeria’s efforts to modernize and expand its mining sector, driving both local and international investment.
