Algerian Agriculture Minister Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid on Thursday launched the 2025–2026 grain harvest campaign in the southern province of Ouargla, projecting a strong agricultural season.

The launch took place at the “Global Agrodiv” farm belonging to the Madar Group in the Gassi Touil area of Hassi Messaoud, covering 4,400 hectares across three agricultural concessions.

Ouargla’s cereal output is expected to reach 475,645 quintals this season, including 435,000 quintals of durum wheat, 20,790 of soft wheat, 5,565 of barley, 3,850 of oats and 10,440 of triticale, according to figures presented on site. The cultivated area totals 9,854 hectares, up 16% compared with the previous season.

Authorities said the campaign has been supported by expanded infrastructure and equipment, including 24 combine harvesters, seven balers, seven tractors, 50 trucks and four transport units. More than 400 km of agricultural tracks and 900 km of electrification networks have also been developed to support farming operations.

During the visit, Oualid noted that the state continues to support agricultural investment through infrastructure expansion, electrification programmes and administrative facilitation measures aimed at improving productivity in strategic crops.

The minister also inaugurated two proximity grain storage centres with a combined capacity of 100,000 quintals, and inspected ongoing works for an intermediate storage complex, including seven hangars and a silo in Hassi Benabdallah. He also reviewed a sugar beet cultivation project intended for industrial processing at a Madar Group farm in N’goussa.
