Oran Police Foil Attempted Irregular Maritime Crossing, Arrest 77 Individuals

Police in Oran have foiled an attempt to organise an irregular maritime crossing and arrested 77 people, including 10 organisers and 67 Moroccan nationals, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) said on Saturday.
Judicial police, acting under prosecutorial supervision, dismantled a structured smuggling network involved in regrouping and transporting candidates for the crossing.
In an initial operation, officers arrested three suspected organisers and 51 Moroccan nationals travelling by vehicle and bus towards a coastal departure point in Oran. A follow-up raid on a residence used to house additional candidates led to the arrest of seven further members and 16 more Moroccan nationals.
Authorities seized €1,400, 1,080 Moroccan dirhams, two field binoculars and 10 vehicles used for logistical support.
The suspects were presented to the public prosecutor at the tribunal of Filaoussen.
