Police dismantle organised forgery and housing fraud network
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers — The Algiers wilaya police services dismantled an organised criminal network composed of three individuals, including a woman, involved in forgery and the use of falsified administrative and official documents, as well as fraud targeting citizens, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).
The investigation was triggered by complaints from multiple victims who were defrauded by individuals posing as public institution employees. The suspects promised access to public housing allocations, exploiting social vulnerability and high demand in the sector.
Investigations by the major crimes unit led to the identification and arrest of the network members. Searches resulted in the seizure of 44 falsified housing application files, 96.2 million centimes in local currency, and computer equipment used in forgery operations, including a central unit, a computer and a scanner.
Following judicial procedures, the suspects were presented before the competent public prosecutor.
