Algeria continues to assert itself as a steadfast advocate for a coherent and unified Arab approach to regional security, stability, and collective resilience. This commitment was reaffirmed by Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, during the 43rd session of the Arab Ministers of Interior Council, conducted via videoconference, signaling Algeria’s active engagement in shaping pragmatic and principled solutions in a complex geopolitical landscape.
In his address, Sayoud emphasized that enhancing Arab cooperation has become an imperative in the current era of volatility. Algeria, he noted, seeks to contribute constructively to regional and international initiatives aimed at fostering peace, ensuring security, and protecting the sovereign integrity of Arab states. Central to this vision is the insistence on dialogue as the principal mechanism for conflict resolution—a measured, strategic approach designed to shield the region from the cascading consequences of crises.
Beyond procedural diplomacy, Sayoud articulated Algeria’s solidarity with nations subjected to military aggression, denouncing such actions as both unjustifiable and unacceptable. The Minister extended condolences to the families of victims and underscored the country’s support for affected populations, signaling a comprehensive stance that marries moral responsibility with strategic foresight.
The escalating tensions in the Middle East, Sayoud observed, have implications that transcend regional borders, affecting global economic stability and energy markets. Disruptions in supply chains, mounting socio-economic pressures, and vulnerabilities in the global flow of resources underscore the interconnectedness of regional instability with wider international systems.
Security challenges, he continued, are increasingly multidimensional. The proliferation of terrorist organizations, transnational criminal networks, illicit drug trafficking—particularly synthetic narcotics—irregular migration, and cybercrime all exacerbate the risks facing the Arab world. In response, Algeria remains committed to operationalizing the second phase of the Arab Strategy against Terrorism, emphasizing adaptive mechanisms and rigorous measures to counter the financing of terrorism, including through targeted action against drug trafficking.
Sayoud framed these challenges not solely as threats but also as catalysts for regional solidarity. He argued that the magnitude of the difficulties confronting the Arab world presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen cooperation, consolidate collective resilience, and construct an integrated, efficient security architecture capable of addressing both present and emerging threats.
