Sonatrach Exports First Butane Shipment to Chad Under Strategic Energy Partnership

Algiers – Algeria’s state energy group Sonatrach announced on Wednesday the export of its first shipment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG – butane) to Chad under a framework agreement signed with Chadian distributor Gazcom.

According to a company statement, the cargo was shipped through the port of Douala in Cameroon before being transported overland to Chad. The operation follows discussions between Sonatrach and Gazcom regarding the supply of LPG to the Chadian market.

The talks culminated in the signing of a framework agreement on 21 April, establishing the basis for long-term commercial cooperation between the two companies.

Sonatrach described the transaction as a significant step toward building direct partnerships with local distributors in the Sahel region and expanding sustainable energy cooperation with African partners within a broader South-South cooperation framework.

The export also builds on the Algeria–Chad memorandum of understanding signed in December 2025 covering hydrocarbons and mining cooperation, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, facilitating expertise transfer, and developing joint projects in exploration, production and resource valorisation.

The initiative reflects Algeria’s broader strategy of consolidating its energy presence across Africa while reinforcing regional economic integration and strategic intra-African partnerships.
