Tindouf positions itself as a strategic gateway for African trade integration ahead of export fair

Tindouf is entering an accelerated phase of logistical and institutional preparation ahead of the Salon of Algerian Products and Services for Export, scheduled to take place from 24 to 27 April. The event is being framed locally as a strategic opportunity to reinforce the wilaya’s positioning as a commercial bridge towards African markets.

Organised under the slogan “Tindouf, gateway to exports towards Africa”, the fair reflects a broader national ambition to deepen trade connectivity with the continent, while leveraging border regions as operational platforms for economic outreach.

According to the head of daïra, Reda Belbali, preparatory work has been underway for several weeks across multiple administrative and technical departments. Efforts have focused on upgrading exhibition spaces and reinforcing logistical and organisational infrastructure to ensure operational readiness for both domestic and international participants.

Local authorities, he noted, have mobilised material and human resources in coordination with relevant sectors to complete arrangements linked to accommodation, transport, security, and institutional support for economic operators, in anticipation of what is expected to be a high-profile economic gathering.

The event is expected to host a wide range of national companies operating across industrial manufacturing, agriculture, energy, and logistics services. Beyond showcasing production capacity, it is designed as a platform for business matchmaking and investment signalling, particularly with African partners, in line with Algeria’s broader export diversification strategy beyond hydrocarbons.

The programme will also include structured business-to-business meetings and sectoral economic discussions focused on expanding non-oil exports and identifying new commercial corridors. These efforts are aligned with ongoing national policy orientations aimed at strengthening Algeria’s footprint in African markets.

From a structural perspective, local economic actors underscore Tindouf’s geographical position as a natural corridor towards the Sahel and West Africa. Nouh Abiri, president of the Tindouf Chamber of Commerce and Industry “Tafaghoumt”, pointed to the wilaya’s evolving logistical relevance, reinforced by major infrastructure projects such as the Trans-Saharan Road and the Gara Djebilet iron ore development.

He argued that these developments collectively enhance the region’s capacity to function as an emerging commercial and logistics hub, capable of facilitating cross-border trade flows.

Ultimately, the fair is expected to serve less as a symbolic showcase than as a functional platform for connecting producers and external markets, while reinforcing Algeria’s strategic objective of expanding non-hydrocarbon exports and embedding itself more deeply within African trade networks.
