Algeria “a major African partner” in fight against organised crime, says Darmanin
French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin has described Algeria as “a major country in Africa” and an essential partner in international efforts to combat organised crime, following a working visit focused on strengthening judicial cooperation between Paris and Algiers.
Speaking in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche, Darmanin said his trip to Algeria formed part of broader efforts to reinforce cross-border coordination against transnational criminal networks, stressing that such threats require sustained cooperation beyond national jurisdictions.
He added that Algeria occupies a “key position” in this framework, given its regional role and strategic relevance in counter-crime operations, while noting that France is seeking to expand cooperation with multiple partners in this field.
The remarks come as both countries continue to adjust and deepen security and judicial cooperation channels, particularly in areas linked to organised crime and legal assistance frameworks.
