Algeria, Egypt Move to Deepen Energy Partnership as Oil Minister Visits Algiers
By Dr. Hana Saada
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Ibrahim Ali Badawi arrived in Algiers on Tuesday for a working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector, at the invitation of Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab.
The Egyptian delegation includes senior industry officials, notably Salah Eddine Abdel Karim, head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, and Walid Lotfy, chairman of Petrojet, alongside senior ministry executives.
Mr Badawi was received at Algiers International Airport by Mr Arkab, marking the start of talks focused on revitalising cooperation mechanisms and expanding partnerships across the oil and gas value chain.
Discussions are expected to centre on strengthening ties between Sonatrach and Egyptian energy companies, while identifying new investment and cooperation opportunities in upstream and downstream activities.
The visit is also set to culminate in the signing of several agreements aimed at consolidating bilateral energy ties and opening new avenues for joint projects in areas of shared strategic interest.
The engagement reflects a broader push by both countries to translate political alignment into operational energy partnerships.
