ALGIERS — Algeria and Germany have taken another step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in higher education and scientific research following talks between Algeria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, and a delegation from Germany’s University of Jena, led by its Rector, Professor Manfred Wissenitz.
The meeting, held on Monday as part of the growing academic partnership between the two countries, focused on expanding institutional cooperation and developing new frameworks for university collaboration.
Central to the discussions was the implementation of a cooperation agreement recently signed between the University of Jena and the University of Algiers 1, establishing the framework for a joint academic degree programme benefiting students from both Algeria and Germany.
The agreement is designed to promote closer academic integration by enabling participating students to pursue internationally recognized joint qualifications while strengthening collaboration between the two higher education institutions.
Beyond the creation of a joint degree programme, the partnership also seeks to expand scientific cooperation through collaborative research initiatives, enhance academic mobility for students between Algeria and Germany, and facilitate the organization of joint scientific events dedicated to advanced and emerging fields of research.
The discussions form part of Algeria’s broader strategy to internationalize its higher education sector, strengthen partnerships with leading international universities, and foster greater scientific exchange aimed at supporting innovation, research excellence, and human capital development.
