Algeria Highlights UN Reform and Multilateral Cooperation at High-Level Sustainable Development Forum
Speaking at a ministerial roundtable held alongside the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Lounès Magramane highlighted Algeria’s contribution to United Nations reform while reaffirming the country’s commitment to human capital development, innovation and stronger international cooperation to advance the 2030 Agenda.

NEW YORK — Algeria has reaffirmed its support for United Nations reform and a strengthened multilateral system, with Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Lounès Magramane outlining the country’s priorities during a ministerial roundtable on the implementation of the Pact for the Future, held on the sidelines of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Magramane participated in the ministerial session entitled “Assessing the Pact for the Future”, held during the High-Level Political Forum convened at UN Headquarters in New York under the theme: “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals.”
During his address, Magramane highlighted Algeria’s efforts and contributions to advancing United Nations reform, particularly during the country’s 2024–2025 mandate, while emphasising Algeria’s engagement with its regional and international partners to strengthen a multilateral system founded on the principles of justice, equity and international cooperation.
He also presented Algeria’s development approach under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, describing it as a strategy centred on investment in human capital, innovation and digital transformation as key drivers of sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Magramane stressed the importance of accelerating structural reforms at both the national and international levels, while calling for stronger collective action to address the financing challenges confronting developing countries.
He underscored the need for greater international mobilisation to bridge the global financing gap for sustainable development and to tackle the growing debt burden facing many developing economies, describing these issues as major obstacles to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The intervention reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to promoting effective multilateral cooperation and supporting international efforts aimed at building a more equitable global governance framework capable of addressing contemporary development challenges.
