ALGIERS — Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, has instructed project teams to accelerate construction of the Algiers Metro extension connecting Place des Martyrs to Bab El Oued, as authorities seek to maintain the timetable for one of the capital’s key public transport infrastructure projects.
During an unannounced inspection visit on Thursday to the construction site of the Taleb Abderrahmane Metro Station in Bab El Oued, Djellaoui reviewed progress on the project and received technical briefings on the various stages of implementation, according to a statement from the ministry.
Officials presented updates on tunnel excavation works, structural reinforcement using specialised support pillars, as well as the construction of ventilation systems and station access infrastructure.
Following the site inspection, the minister called for daily monitoring of construction progress, closer coordination among all parties involved and the prompt resolution of technical and organisational challenges to ensure the project advances according to its planned schedule.

The metro extension is being carried out by Cosider Travaux Publics, while the Algiers Metro Operating Company (EMA) serves as the delegated project owner.
Technical supervision is provided by the Algerian Infrastructure Engineering Company (SAETI), with the National Technical Control Agency for Public Works (CTTP) overseeing technical compliance and quality control throughout the execution of the project.
The extension forms part of Algeria’s broader strategy to expand public transport infrastructure in the capital, improve urban mobility and strengthen the integration of sustainable mass transit networks serving densely populated districts of Algiers.
