TIPAZA — Ibtissem Hamlaoui, President of the Algerian Red Crescent (ARC), on Thursday inaugurated an international training programme on humanitarian relief and emergency response designed to strengthen the operational capacities of the organisation’s staff and volunteers.
The three-day programme, running from 16 to 18 July, is being held at the National Sports Teams Training Centre in Fouka, Tipaza Province, and brings together international experts from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) alongside representatives from Algerian Red Crescent provincial committees across the country.
According to the organisation, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance the technical competencies of its humanitarian workforce, improve the preparedness of emergency response teams and reinforce their capacity to manage relief centres and humanitarian assistance operations in line with internationally recognised humanitarian standards.
Following the opening session, Hamlaoui chaired a coordination meeting with presidents of the Algerian Red Crescent’s provincial committees to review operational readiness and strengthen rapid-response mechanisms, particularly in light of the forest fires affecting several regions of the country.
The meeting assessed the organisation’s field mobilisation efforts and examined measures to support volunteers while reinforcing coordination with relevant public institutions and emergency services to ensure timely and effective humanitarian interventions during emergencies.
Participants also reviewed preparations for the organisation’s upcoming national social support programme, discussing implementation plans and operational arrangements intended to facilitate solidarity initiatives across Algeria’s provinces and provide assistance to vulnerable households ahead of the new social season.
Closing the meeting, Hamlaoui called for continued mobilisation, greater humanitarian engagement and sustained coordination among volunteers and local committees, stressing the importance of responsibility, solidarity and preparedness in strengthening the Algerian Red Crescent’s humanitarian mission and its capacity to respond effectively to the needs of communities during crises.
