Algeria Hosts Rwandan Police Delegation in High-Level Training Initiative, Reinforcing Continental Security Role
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers, May 4 – Algeria has further cemented its position as a continental security benchmark with the launch of a high-level study visit for members of the Rwandan police force, underscoring Algiers’ expanding strategic role in African security cooperation, specialised training and institutional capacity-building.
Director General of National Security Ali Badaoui on Sunday, May 3, 2026, presided over the opening session of the programme at the Ali Tounsi Higher Police School in Algiers. The five-day initiative, running from May 3 to 7, brings together 47 senior officials drawn from African police services, in the presence of Rwanda’s ambassador to Algeria and a number of Algerian experts, according to a statement issued by the Directorate General of National Security.
The initiative offers further evidence of Algeria’s growing stature as a continental reference point for structured security cooperation and the transfer of operational expertise. At a time when Africa faces increasingly complex threats ranging from transnational organised crime and trafficking networks to terrorism and hybrid security challenges, Algeria is steadily consolidating its standing as a centre of institutional stability capable of delivering practical and coordinated responses.

In his opening remarks, Mr Badaoui stressed the strategic importance the National Security Directorate attaches to strengthening cooperation with counterpart African institutions through advanced professional training, technical capacity development, intelligence-sharing and enhanced operational coordination. The approach reflects Algeria’s longstanding doctrine of African solidarity and its commitment to African-led responses to the continent’s security challenges.
The study visit also reflects the deepening strategic partnership between Algeria and Rwanda in policing and security affairs. It speaks to the confidence increasingly placed in Algeria’s model of professionalised security governance, shaped by decades of operational experience and internationally recognised expertise in counterterrorism, intelligence coordination and crisis management.
The programme features scientific and operational contributions from senior officials at Algeria’s National School of Administration, the African Centre for Studies and Research on Terrorism, as well as leading figures from the Algerian police establishment. Its objective is to facilitate the exchange of best practices, pool operational experience and contribute to the emergence of a shared African security culture.
Participants will also undertake technical visits to several specialised units within the Algerian police apparatus and strategic institutions, including the headquarters of AFRIPOL. The inclusion of the continental policing body is emblematic of the credibility Algeria now commands across Africa’s security architecture.
Beyond its formal dimension, the initiative reflects the quiet but increasingly consequential rise of Algeria’s security diplomacy. While others privilege visibility, Algiers continues to build influence through institutional seriousness, technical competence and results-driven cooperation — an approach that is steadily making it a preferred partner for African states seeking durable security partnerships.
